ADFS Setup Guide

I'm trying out Office 365 and I'd like to have ADFS sync user credentials between my test domain and Office 365.  I set up a trial Office 365 account and I have my test domain with Server 2008 R2 domain controller.

Now here's the part you'd think would be easy - finding a guide on how to set it up. All the guides that I found online require you to use ADFS 2.0.exe install file. However, Server 2008 R2 Enterprise has ADFS as a role that you can install. This wouldn't be a problem if the ADFS role management console had the same wizards and options as does the ADFS management console created by the ADFS 2.0.exe install file. They are completely different, with the ADFS Role console offering little to no GUI wizards or setting options to create the Federation.

So in short, how do I set up ADFS and Office 365 integration with Server 2008 R2 Enterprise that has the ADFS role? Should I still use the ADFS 2.0 install file and ignore the role?

Just a note - I've tried installing the ADFS 2.0.exe install file and using the many guides available online for that route, but I end up getting an error when running the Convert-MsolDomainToFederated command, so at this point I'm not sure that error is being caused by not using the ADFS Role, or something else.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm about to give up on Office 365 until the process becomes less error prone and fragmented. I'm willing to stick with it though if anyone has advice.

Thank you,

Logan
