Office365 recent changes now refuse Exchange server setup on Android

Hi all,

Up until recently I was able to setup and utilize an exchange account for Office365 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Android 4.1.

I have had to wipe my phone / factory reset several times over the last year and every time setting up whether manual, or when I was lucky to have automatic work, was fast and easy. During that time my organization was utilizing pod51019. However, since then we've been moved over to pod51044.

Yesterday I had to wipe my phone with factory reset. Upon setting it back up I noticed the changes to the servers in the address bar, but also noticed under the settings area it now lists our server as outlook.office365.com. With that I proceeded unsuccessfully to add an Exchange account.

Here is what I have done/tried so far:

  • I removed the device from my list in OWA.
  • Left domain blank, entered username as jsmith@company.com, entered my password, and for server used outlook.office365.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Left domain blank, entered username as jsmith@company.com, entered my password, and for server used m.outlook.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Left domain blank, entered username as jsmith@company.com, entered my password, and for server used pod51044.outlook.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Left domain blank, entered username as jsmith@company.onmicrosoft.com, entered my password, and for server usedoutlook.office365.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Left domain blank, entered username as jsmith@company.onmicrosoft.com, entered my password, and for server usedm.outlook.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Left domain blank, entered username as jsmith@company.onmicrosoft.com, entered my password, and for server used pod51044.outlook.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Entered company.onmicrosoft.com for domain, entered username as jsmith@company.onmicrosoft.com, entered my password, and for server usedoutlook.office365.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Entered company.onmicrosoft.com for domain, entered username as jsmith@company.onmicrosoft.com, entered my password, and for server usedm.outlook.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Entered company.onmicrosoft.com for domain, entered username as jsmith@company.onmicrosoft.com, entered my password, and for server used pod51044.outlook.com (Incorrect Password / Username)
  • Logged into PowerShell, started a session with Office365, did a get-mailbox -identity and using only the first portion as I have previously, entered that bit of characters plus .mailbox.outlook.com (Incorrect Password / Username)

I would like to mention that I've tested every single one of these settings on the TestExchange service. They all came back 100% successful and working. I also know that the password was inputted correctly on the device and I did reset the password once as there was a previous article here suggesting that might work (not sure why).

I was attempting to set this e-mail account up from 5:25pm yesterday all the way up until 2am today.

*At 8:28AM as I was typing this message my phone accepted the very first option. I am a bit irritated.

This issue needs to be fixed for future reference as my contacts/calendar/entire livelihood is via that account.

Can MS please address this? Why would it act this way?
