I have Lync 2010 installed on my Windows 8 PC (both the W8 app and the desktop version), on a Windows 8 phone and on a Surface RT. All of these are switched on 24/7 and all of them log in to Lync automatically. On a few occasions I've had someone tell me I haven't responded to an earlier Lync IM message, and I've had to hunt around my Lync devices to find it. This morning for example while I was working on my PC, someone said they'd sent me a message half an hour earlier, at a time when I was not using any of my Lync devices. Their message wasn't showing on my PC, but when I checked my phone and Surface, I found their message had come through to the Surface, which was probably the last device I'd used prior to them sending their message. The message was in my Outlook Conversation History folder, but of course I hadn't know to go and look for it until the person told me I hadn't responded.
This all seems a bit random and unworkable, and since many of us now use multiple devices I wondered whether there was a more practical way to work with Lync on several devices.
Good'ol Yahoo Messenger logs you out of your account on one device the moment you log in on a second device which worked fine when you were logged on at work, then went home and logged on there, but isn't really workable when you're using mobile devices as you'd never remember to log on every time you left your desk.
Anyway, if anyone has any hints as to how to work with Lync on several devices, please let me know.
